If you’re looking for long words, nuance and complexity you’ve come to the wrong place. You’ll get none of that here.

Leadership is the navigation of a group of people, however big or small, from one place to another. By definition leadership cannot be about the maintenance of the status quo and anyway, as the Red Queen taught us “you have to do all the running you can do, just to stand still”.

So to lead, you first of all need to know two things (and this is where blogs and books on leadership make it all so intimidatingly complicated!)

Question 1: Where are we today?

To begin a journey you have to know your start point. As a leader you must regularly be asking yourself this most important question.

In reality, in my opinion, it’s a simple question. Often people mistrust answers that appear to be simple or obvious. Don’t.
